About Mickey Avalon

Avalon had a very difficult childhood, growing up with a single mom on welfare. In order to support her two kids, Mickey’s mother sold pot on the black market and did very well. In fact his mom actually taught him how to sell it and he made a lot of money doing it for the both of them. By Avalon’s late teens he was addicted to heroin. Avalon’s father was also a drug addict, doing years of heroin, crack and meth. He became very sick from contracting hepatitis and tuberculosis. At one point Mickey locked his dad in the house so he could not go out and buy more drugs. Sadly after all this drug abuse his father did eventually get clean only to be hit, ironically, by a drunken driver and died. Both of Avalon’s grandparents were Holocaust survivors and at one time Mickey even converted to an Orthodox Jew.

Mickey started to write his own songs after being encouraged by his friend and former MTV VJ, Simon Rex. IN fact he actually spent time living with Rex when he was on his own and broke in Los Angeles. Rex helped him get his first few gigs and the two of them handed out CD’s to the local clubs to get them familiar with Avalon’s work.

Avalon has his own unique style. Not only are the topics he sings about dark and lewd but he also appears that way on stage. Avalon can often be seen appearing on stage in skin tight pants, shirtless, wearing heavy make up. Often his back up singers look like they are drugged out and the band members have been known to pour tequila into the mouths of audience members. Avalon has also been seen drinking tequila on stage. Kissing and groping also goes on during the performances. His skinny shirtless physique has had some compare him to a young Mick Jagger, while his on stage performances and crazy entertaining style has earned him the comparison to both Alice Cooper and David Bowie.

Avalon is definitely gaining popularity. He was on an episode of the reality TV show, The Simple Life, with Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie, who are both big fans. He did an interview with Dave Navarro on the Dave Narrow show and has a 5 page spread in the April issue of Skinnie Magazine. Recently, Avalon appeared with Young Jeezy and Jermaine Dupri in the new Boost Mobile commercial and he has toured with The Red HOT Chili Peppers.
