John was able to find work on Garth Brooks' sound crew, which led to Martina performing random jobs, such as selling Garth Brooks T-shirts at his concerts. However, it was not too long until Martina finally caught the attention of Brooks in 1990, which resulted with Garth offering her the opportunity to open for him on tour if she could secure her own recording contract. Using a demo her husband created for her, Martina signed with RCA, began touring, and was finally realizing her childhood dream.
Martina McBride’s debut album, The Time Has Come, was released in 1992. On the heels of that debut was her 1993 hit album The Way That I Am. It was this album which provided Martina’s first hit single, My Baby Loves Me, which rocketed to #2 on the music charts. That hit was then followed by two others - Life #9 which also cracked the Top 10, and Independence Day, about domestic abuse, which won McBride the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year in 1994.
The next year was a good one. In 1995, McBride released Wild Angels - the title song became her first # 1 single - and Martina was also inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Her next album, Evolution in 1997, not only became a Top 10 hit, but quickly achieved double-platinum status, while providing a string of hits, including Valentine, Happy Girl, A Broken Wing, and Wrong Again. It was this record which finally earned critical acclaim for McBride - thrusting her into the limelight by winning her first CMA award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1999, and being chosen to perform for President Bill Clinton.
The rising star received her second Best Female Vocalist CMA award in 2002, following her 2001 Greatest Hits release, which included four new singles. The following year brought the studio album, Martina. Appealing to both country and pop music followers, Martina provided two Top 10 singles on the Adult Contemporary chart - This One's for the Girls and In My Daughter's Eyes. It was the success of these singles which drew the attentions of the Academy of Country Music, who awarded McBride the 2003 Top Female Vocalist trophy, and the Country Music Association, who named her the Female Vocalist of the Year.
In 2005, Martina McBride chose to return to a more traditional country sound with Timeless, an album made up of country cover songs. Timeless was not only critically acclaimed, but the album resulted in McBride’s highest first week of sales for anything she had ever done.
McBride returned to the studio in 2007 for her next release, Waking Up Laughing, which was followed by a compilation album titled Playlist: The Very Best of Martina McBride, and her 2009 album Shine. While performing on the Shine tour, McBride was nominated for yet another CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award, and also scheduled to perform during that awards ceremony as well.
Seemingly, the dreams of that little girl from Kansas have been realized, and listeners all over the world are the ones who truly lucky that they have. With hit after hit being followed by award after award, this girl is obviously for real, so check the tour schedule now and get your Martina McBride concert tickets for an amazing experience which will quite possibly last a lifetime.
