Lovingly called the "The Pride of St. Louis", the band Mama's Pride, was started by brothers Pat and Danny Liston. In 1974 the band was signed by Atco Records and after a short period released their first self titled album. After a while the band issued their second album "Uptown and Lowdown". An interesting fact about the album was that Timothy B. Schmidt of the famed Eagles band had sung the backing vocals for the "Merry-Go-Round". After the second album, their label dropped the band. Actually the record label sought to promote the group as a southern rock band, and paired them with groups like The Outlaws and others on concert bills. But the band members were not comfortable with this move nor did their fans accept them as a southern rock group. Ultimately the band split in 1982. There were numerous reasons for the split as well as being dropped by their record label. After a few years a local radio station in St. Louis sponsored a Mama's Pride reunion concert. The move was well appreciated and the concert too was a big hit. Their fans thought that the band had reunited for good, but to their disappointment it was a one-time show only, the band had no plans for a reunion.

The group had resolved against working up any new material for the show or staying together afterwards to record any songs. Finally in 1992 the band decided to try their hand once again at writing and recording some new material. One of the founding member Pat Liston was not very keen on the idea but his brother Dan, was in favor of a reunion. They began to develop matter for their new album and in 1992 their album "Guard Your Heart" was released. Their third album was a lot different in sound from their two former albums. Despite the fact that Pat and Dan Liston were each born again Christians, the album did not feel or sound like "Christian rock". The songs dealt with real life situations and the lives of the songwriters. Their third album, which would also be their last album was produced by Jim Gaines. The band released only three albums out of which the earlier two have not been re-released on compact disc. The albums have become a collector's item. Pat Liston wanted to re- release the albums on compact disc but Atlantic Records, is not willing to part with the original copy. "Blue Mist", "In the Morning", "She's a Stranger to Me Now", "Merry-Go-Round", and "Maybe" are just some of the popular songs of the band.
