The members of Macon Blues Festival met in college. The bassist was influenced by his sibling's love of music. The drummer was encouraged to play by his uncle. Macon Blues Festival started performing at the local club Cafeteria. Ozzy Osborne heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Macon Blues Festival met with a local DJ from Q98.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The band's members all had odd jobs while they worked hard to be known. Macon Blues Festival were sure they were not going to be a one hit wonder after their single became popular. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller bars in which they started.
Macon Blues Festival realized they made it as soon as Angela Ullmann started the first fan club for the band in 1983. Starting out with just a few dozen members in Seattle, the fan club quickly grew with band’s national tour and the launching of the band’s website by Maria Zadra.
