This versatile talented singer was born on 10 October 1946 in Maywood. When he was just fourteen years old, he started learning guitar. Before becoming a singer, he worked in Army and also worked as a postman for five years at a stretch. Prine started his musical career in the year 1971 with the release of his debut album “John Prine”. The album got immense commercial success and this gave him the required inspiration to pursue his passion. Some of the singles of this album became chartbusters. ‘Paradise’, ‘Sam Stone’ and ‘Illegal Smile’ are some of the famous singles of this album. This album also won rave reviews from the critics and this helped Prine to become a familiar name in the music industry. This album made the wheel of fortune turning in his favor. Prine was termed as the perfect successor to the legendary singer Bob Dylan.

Surprising as it may sound, Bob Dylan himself was also impressed by the songs of John Prine and he had appeared in a show of Prine, without being asked. This incident helped Prine to grab the attention of media and music lovers in a big way. Stimulated by this initial success, Prine released an album under the title of “Sweet Revenge” in the year 1973. “Christmas In Prison”, “Dear Abby” and “Grandpa Was A Carpenter” are some of the popular singles of this album. Prine reached the zenith point of his success with the release of the album “Common Sense” in the next year. Some singles of this album clutched the top position in the Billboard charts. This album is strewn with his brilliant artistic touches. Some of his songs of this album are perfect blend of outstanding composition and breathtaking performance.

The famous album “The Missing Years” was honored with the prestigious Grammy Award. This album was his first collaboration project and it made a furor in the industry with the release. The songs of this album are replete with humorous elements and witty remarks. He continued his collaboration with Epstein and released other two albums ‘Mixed Blessings’ and ‘Lost Dogs’. Both these albums garnered accolades from the critics and the audiences as well.

After releasing the album “In Spite Of Ourselves” in the year 1997, Prine took a break from the music industry owing to increasing health problem. He released his next album named “Fair and Square” in 2005. For his unique contribution to the music industry, Prine was honored with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” in the category of songwriting. In the same year, he received the “Artist of the Year” award.
