Jesse Cook is a Nuevo Flamenco guitarist, based in Toronto. He was born in the year 1964 in Paris. His style of music is characterized by a fusion of Spanish, Latin, jazz and folk music. He is best known for his high-energy live performances.
As a child, Cook would imitate and play the music of guitarist, Manitas de Plata. He pursued his guitar classes at the Eli Kassner Guitar Academy in Toronto. Later on, he continued with the study of classical and jazz guitar in some of the prestigious music schools in North America.
The Narada records signed Cook in the year 1994. In 1995, he released his debut album titled “Tempest”, which later entered the American Billboard charts at #14. Beside individual work, he has performed with B.B. King, Ray Charles, Charlotte Church and Diana Krall. He was also a part of the album, “Seed” by the band, Afro Celt Sound System. Cook has toured with the famous Irish band, The Chieftains.

In 1996, Cook released the album, “Gravity”, which was followed by his third album, “Vertigo”. The “Gravity” appeared in the top ten on the new age charts. With the release of “Free Fall” in 2000, his career finally took off. In 2001, he won his first Juno Award for the “Free Fall” as the Best Instrumental album. His other famous albums include, Nomad, Montreal, Ultimate Jesse Cook and Frontiers. Frontiers was released in 2007 and it has been nominated for the Juno Award in 2008, as the World Music Album of the year. In 2008, his DVD, “One Night at the Metropolis” has also been nominated for the Juno Award as Music DVD of the year. It features his 2006 Montreal Jazz Festival concert. Cook has been accompanied by a group of highly skilled musicians in his concerts. His concerts are a treat to watch, which feature a great percussion section, samba squad and guest vocalists from Egypt.
