J Geils Band began playing together while they were in grade school. The bassist first found his love of music by listening to his grandmother's collection of records. J Geils Band started singing at Anyplace, a local bar. The group used to sell their CDs out of their truck on the street.

J Geils Band knew that they could really have a career in music in 1985, after Brenda Jean started the band’s first fan club. Starting out with just a few dozen members in Buffalo, the fan club quickly grew with band’s national tour and the launching of the group’s website by Dorothy Hemmingway.
After this past non-stop year the members of J Geils Band will spend some time apart to pursue other projects. The band may have recently finished their latest project, but they are already thinking of their next move. J Geils Band's most current release is the group's first since the band members went to work on independent projects seven years ago.
Generally, critics commend J Geils Band for their ability to energize the audience at live performances. A music critic from Denver, Abrahams Tomaselli, has always mentioned band’s tremendous sound. J Geils Band’s newest record has received superb praise from all the critics, including Kent Weyland from Detroit and Gary Fraiser from Atlanta.
