Idina Menzel is a force on Broadway, selling tickets in droves as Elphaba in the original production of the Tony Award-winning musical Wicked, but many do not know that she is also a recording artist. She recorded and released her first album, Still I Can’t Be Still, in 1998. About Idina Menzel
Menzel’s next album, Here, hit the racks in 2004, this time under an independent label, but once again it failed to track. Those within the music industry did begin to notice her though. Idina had songs on soundtracks for several movies, including The Other Sister and Beowolf, and television shows, like Desperate Housewives. Ray Charles even requested that she sing with him on a duet for his posthumously released album Genius & Friends.
After appearing on cast recordings for Rent and Wicked and having one of those recordings remixed for the 2007 Gay Pride Parade and Festival in Los Angeles, Idina Menzel once again tried to find success in the music charts.
Her third album, I Stand, was released on January 29, 2008. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 58, her first album to chart. On the new found success and the popularity of the singles “Brave”, “I Stand”, and “Gorgeous”, Idina Menzel will be selling tickets for her first tour in the summer of 2008.
