The members of I Will Defy grew up together. The group used to sell their records out of their van in the school parking lot. I Will Defy started performing at Sector, a college club. The bassist use to listen to records constantly as a teenager.

After paying their dues and opening shows for years, I Will Defy was signed to a record deal. All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their record. I Will Defy’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going platinum.
I Will Defy knew they had finally made it when Shirley DeCambra started the first fan club for the band in 1979. The club started out small, with just a handful of members around New York. After the group’s first national tour the club grew dramatically, reaching a membership in the thousands.
I Will Defy intends to take some time off after the tour, to allow the band members to rest after a long tour. The band is in the first leg of the accompanying tour for their new album. I Will Defy's most current release is the band's first project since the band broke up four years ago.
