Halelupe began performing at Anyplace, a local dive bar. The group requested that the local radio station to play their tracks. Halelupe’s members were friends in high school. The bassist first found his love of music by listening to his mother's record collection.

Halelupe’s single rose quickly in the charts giving then the national recognition they always wanted. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller bars in which they began. Halelupe was discovered while performing at at Cafeteria, local bar. The groupspent years before being signed as an opening act.
Halelupe realized they had finally made it in 1997, after Ruth Emerson started the band’s first fan club. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Albany to a few thousand across the country.
After this last busy year the members of Halelupe will take some time off to recharge after a long year. The band just finished their new release, and they are thinking of what is to come next.
Generally, critics have praised Halelupe for their playfulness with the crowd at live shows. Steven McCarther, a music critic from Charleston, has always been a fan of band’s terrific drummer. The group loves playing in Sacramento because they played their first sold out show there.
