The members of Hadag Nachash were friends in college. The drummer was influenced by his brother's love of music. Hadag Nachash began singing at Beach, a local dive bar. The group harassed the local radio station to play their first single.

A member of Hadag Nachash started dating a girl whose sisterwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. Hadag Nachash were still a little worried after they released their debut single, but were relieved when the release began to get some radio play.
Hadag Nachash accepted that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act after Shirley Carter started the first fan club for the group in 1990.
