Adam Gardner, Ryan Miller, and Brian Rosenworcel formed the band Guster in 1991 while attending Tufts University in Boston. The band is famous for its live performances, unique sound, humor, and cult following. Through persistent touring and humorous stage give-and-take with the crowd, the band made a strong grassroots fan base that increased rapidly. The trio baring the distinctive industry stereotyping, have formulated a unique sound with two acoustic guitars and a bongo set. They have been successful in creating their own kind of music. The band gained popularity with their short, contagiously catchy tunes about love, suicide, and absurd rock star lifestyles.
Parachute and Golgfly were the two albums released while they were still underground, and they sold over 40,000 copies of the same through word of mouth alone. They finally burst into the mainstream musical scenario in 1999 with ''Lost and Gone Forever,'' their third studio album. The single "Fa Fa" from the album, made it to the Adult Top 40. Their fourth album ''Keep It Together,'' was not as successful as the previous one, the two singles "Careful" and "Amsterdam" were in the Adult Top 40. Joe Pisapia officially joined the band in 2003, and the first album released after his joining was ''Ganging Up On The Sun,'' it reached 25 on the Billboard Top 200.
Wedding Crashers, Life as a House, The OC are few of the movies and TV shows where their songs has been used. Their a Guster song became the slogan for The Weather Channel.
In 1992 while attending the first year orientation program at Tufts University the band members met each other. A year later they named themselves Gus, and booked their first gig. They began to perform around the Boston area during college. While still in college the band recorded its maiden album, Parachute on their own in 1994. The band had to rename itself Guster after another artist calling himself Gus signed a deal with a major record company. The band released their second album Goldfly, again independently in 1997, and the same album was a year later re-released by Sire Records. 1999 saw the release of the band's third album Lost and Gone Forever, produced by Steve Lillywhite. The band appeared in The Late Show with David Letterman, and also released their first music video, for "Fa Fa". In 2003 Keep It Together their fourth album was released, and they also came out with their fifth full length studio album, Ganging Up on the Sun, on June 20, 2006. The Guster also released a documentary comedy series called 'Joe's Place' on their website along with their fifth album. For their hard work and music, Guster won Album of the Year (Major) at the Boston Music Awards on September 27th, 2006.
