The country music at that time was changing its direction towards greatly refined pop music composition. This new style was called Countrypolitan. West helped Gatlin to get job in Nashville. He became the background vocalist of Kris Kristofferson. In 1973, he received a contract for his solo recording from the recording label named monument. The same year he came out with his introductory album named The Pilgrim. The album was not very much popular and the following year he brought out another album named Rain/Rainbow that had fresh songs like Delta Dirt. This got much more success than the first one. Broken Lady released in 1975 was the first great hit of Gatlin and brought him the Grammy Award in 1977 on the category of Best Country Song. In 1976, he brought out the album named High Time. The album named Larry Gatlin with Family & Friends featured the Gatlin Brothers. They were also seen in some other hits of Gatlin. The track I Just Wish You Were Someone I Loved was the earliest track of Gatlin that went to number one position in the charts. He brought out his final solo album in 1978 that was also a great hit. The name of the album was Oh Brother. He noticed that his brothers also had the desire to become country artist and formed a band with them.
Gatlin contracted the Columbia Record label in 1979.He formally feature4d his brothers in the albums and singles. The same year they changed their band name formally to Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers. Next to this, they came out with their album named Straight Ahead. The track named All the Gold In California was in this album. It later became the one of the biggest hit of the band. It was also a hit in the charts. The Academy Of Country Music declared him the Top Male Vocalist of the Year. They were t earliest country band to have music video. The track Indian Summer was written by Barry Gibb and Gatlin in the year 1985. He taped this track with Roy Orbison. For the major part of 1980, they came out with many tracks that were hit on charts. In 1992, they made farewell trip. Larry wrote a journal named All the Gold in California that was printed in 1998. He made trips in Bosnia in 1999. In Missouri’s Branson, he had made his entertainment career.
