Gary Mullen’s members grew up together. The drummer first found his love of music by listening to his father's collection of records. Gary Mullen began performing at the college club Eyewitness. The band was influenced by music of the '70s.

Gary Mullen were happy to get the record deal, but were not sure how far they would go. The release of their debut album convinced them that they were right where they should be after their songs began to get lots of radio play. Now the band is a huge draw wherever they go. Gary Mullen met with a local DJ from B91.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The band's members all had weird jobs while they waited to be noticed.
Gary Mullen realized they had finally made it when the band’s first fan club was started in 1985 by Patricia Gitlewski. Starting out with just a few dozen members in Cleveland, the fan club quickly grew with group’s national tour and the launching of the group’s website by Mary Hemmingway.
After this past non-stop year the members of Gary Mullen will take some time off to work on individual projects. The group is in the first leg of the tour accompanying for their newest release.
