The band of Gandalf Murphy along with the Slambovian Circus of Dreams was formed in 1998 in the Sleepy Hollow. It is popular for its dedicated and supportive fans that come from miles away to watch them perform. It is one of the best-known bands in their home state. It has received the "Band of the Year" by the Hudson Valley Magazine for the last three years. The band plays Folk Rock using folk instruments, electric guitar and vocals and lyrics by Joziah Longo to create a charming atmosphere. The band speaks of diverse influences like Hank Williams, Incredible String Band, Dylan, Pink Floyd and Bowie. They have described the music the band delivers as "punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd". The original members of the band had good success but in 1995, the band broke up and the members took a pause from performing. In the meantime, Joziah and Tink took courses in Computer graphic design along with the techniques of video production. Suring this time they met Tony, who happened to be their instructor. All of them decided to form band The Circus that included Tony, as he had earlier been a band drummer. The Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams members include Joziah Longo as the lead vocals and in guitar and harmonica, Tink Lloyd playing accordion, cello and flute, Sharkey McEwen also in guitars and backing vocals and in mandolin and Tony Zuzulo in percussion.
Along with their songs, Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams has made name for its live shows. The have received high praise for their loyal fan base. The latest release of the band is called "Flapjacks From The Sky" which is claimed to be a masterpiece work of the band. To many, it is a great work of art of America. The band is about to release their latest album called "The Great Unravel" in the summer of 2008. There are regular performances by the band at different folk music venues, music festivals and coffeehouses in the North-eastern as well as East North Central United States. All their performances are completely sold out to its many fans. The band also performs in other regions of US, across the country. For the first time, the band will perform outside of US in England.
To Reinhard Holstein of Glitterhouse Records, Germany, Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams sound like David Bowie has recorded ‘Hunky Dory’ in the studio of Pink Floyd. All Music Guide has described the band as among the best American bands in the present time. Dar Williams says that he feels like writing and also performing like the way the band does during its performances. At the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Review, the band’s performances was appreciated as a fusion of many years of rock and roll music along with little folk and some Americana to produce a creative and talented numbers. Undoubtedly, a great praise indeed. The band has also received praise from The New York Times, Taconic Weekend, Kynd Music and the Westchester County Weekly.
