The members of Gales of November met in middle school. The bassist used to listen to his grandmother's CD constantly as a child. Gales of November began performing at Hamper, a local bar. The group used to sell their tapes out of their car at local shows.

Gales of November talked to a local DJ from X91.9 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after Gales of November was signed. After the single hit the airwaves and became incredibly popular, Gales of November knew they’d made it big and were not willing to be just another one hit wonder.
Gales of November knew they had finally made it in 1985, when the band's first fan club was started by Patricia Jagodzinski. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Ann Arbor to a few thousand from California to New York.
Every time the band comes to Los Angeles they are sure to stop at Jam and play a show.
