Fleetwood Macs genesis from British blues band in the mid-60s to world sensations has taken the form of countless different lineups, but always keeping one of the two founding members, Mick Fleetwood. The first period of success for Fleetwood Mac came in Europe where they sold out tickets to concerts around the continent. The group’s fluid lineup eventually added Jeremy Spencer on guitar.

Jeremy Spencer’s ability on the guitar led the band away from an all blues set up to a pop sound that they continued even after he left and joined a cult. The years from 1970 to 1975 found the band struggling with the new sound, but eventually, with the additions of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and lead singer Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac began to sell tickets and albums throughout the United States.
The self-titled 1975 album went platinum five times and the next album Rumours, went platinum 19 times. Rumours success came from the pain of breakups, the struggle of creative egos, and the strife from alcohol and drug use. Fleetwood Mac’s next album, Tusk, was a commercial failure compared to Rumours, only selling two times platinum. The members of Fleetwood Mac take a break after 1982, with members selling tickets as solo musicians.
The lineup of Buckingham, Nicks, McVie, McVie, and Fleetwood ended officially in 1987. New members were brought in, but by 1992, the five members responsible for the highly successful pop sound reunited to play in support of presidential hopeful Bill Clinton. The reunion was short lived, as a new album release in 1995 was a failure and had the group on tour tickets as an opening act for Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
A second reunion in 1997 found commercial success with a live album, The Dance, but ultimately the unstable nature of the group altered the lineup again. The members of Fleetwood Mac have continued to sell tickets to their concerts and tour on their own, but a reunion is always in the works.
The latest Fleetwood Mac plans have the group returning to tour in 2009 with Sheryl Crow replacing Christine McVie. The group is sure to sell out tickets almost every concert on the tour schedule.
