Fleet Fixes came from a city known more for Grunge Rock in the 1990s than the folk movement in the 21st century. The group began in the suburbs at Lake Washington High School when outgoing, confident Robin Pecknold and shy Skyler Skjelset met and became friends over their appreciation for Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Pecknold became the lead singer and songwriter and Skjelset became the lead guitarist. The duo played venues throughout Seattle and Fleet Foxes tickets were almost Pineapple tickets, but a conflict with another band led to the name change.

Fleet Foxes first drew the attention of producer Phil Elk in 2006. Elk helped them produce a self-titled EP and this led to their performance at SXSW. There SubPop music executives signed the group and a second EP, Sun Giant, was recorded and released. Critics hand been pulling for this group since the festival, but it was not until the release of Fleet Foxes, the debut full-length album, that the group began selling out tickets to shows in Australia and the UK.
The group expanded its two-piece to a five-piece and kept the same baroque 1960s pop style that led them to be compared to the Zombies. The group now consists of Pecknold, Skjelset, J. Tillman, Casey Wescott, and Christian Wargo. This quintet combines an ability to harmonize with a tremendously talented song writer who creates lyrics that seem sincere and original, yet recognizable.
