Feist

Artist: Feist
Genre: Rock
Latest Album:
Open Season
Background:

Wherever Feist performs her charismatic appeal draws countless music lovers to her shows. At birth she was called Leslie Feist in Calgary in the mid-'70s but prefers to be identified by her surname when it comes to choosing music as a profession. The Jhay influenced songstress got her beginning performing in a high-school punk group called Placebo (not to be puzzled with the U.K. present rock act of the identical name). After emerging triumphant in the battle of the outfits competition, Placebo performed their initial gig opening for the Ramones, and for the next five years, Feist fine tuned her rock skills, journeying all over Canada which had its influence on Feist. She had stressed her voice so much; she was informed she'd never sing again. To get back attention and medical advice from another expert, Feist ran away from her hometown to settle in Toronto in 1998. >> More alt

About Feist

She expended six months all by herself in a basement with a four-track recorder. She purchased a guitar as a way of briefly substituting her voice and started creating a natural pop sound. A year afterwards, Feist was playing guitar for By Divine Right. She went on to perform in front of thousands of stadium gatherings as By Divine Right opened for the Tragically Hip throughout North America. Sometime while touring with some of Canada's well-known acts, Feist managed time to record and self-released her opening solo album, 1999's Monarch( Lay Down Your Jeweled Head)

After putting up some minor local gigs in and around Toronto, Feist got associated with electroclash rap vixen Peaches in 2000. Peaches named Feist Bitch Lap-Lap and from there, Feist sang on and traveled in aid of Peaches’ introductory album, Teaches of Peaches, Not keen to remain rooted in one place for too long, Feist got associated with Broken Social Scene, in the recording of their sophomore endeavor.

You Forget It in People. The album, which was made available to the public in 2002, turned out to be a vital success amidst the indie crowds after receiving a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year in 2003. Feist had already planned for a second solo album by then. When she wasn't making a trip to North America and Europe with Broken Social Scene, Feist and Renaud Letang of Manu Chao and Chilly Gonzales traveled between Calgary, Toronto, and Paris for its recording. Let It Die was released on Arts & Crafts in May 2004. Feist has also presented vocals to works by Kings of Conveniences, apostle of Hustle, and Jane Birkin.

In 2000, Feist shifted in as a roommate with Peaches and Gonzales, and turned up as a guest vocalist on The Teaches of Peaches. She then took part in the recording sessions for Broken Social Scene’s albums Feel Good Lost and You Forgot it in People. She then shifted toParis. While in Europe, she worked with with Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience as a guest vocalist on their album Riot on an Empty Street. She also makes an appearance on The New Deal’s 2003 album Gone Gone gone.
