Background:
Alternative singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik hit the mainstream musical scene when he premiered in mid-1996 when Atlantic records issued his self-titled debut album. This release was well received by the music lovers and instantly Duncan became a known face in alternative circles. Duncan was born in 1970 and grew up in South Carolina but he spent most of his early years with his grandparents in New Jersey. While living in New Jersey he interacted with local piano players and inspired to play the piano.

About Duncan Sheik
Later on he moved to electric guitar and also performed in various band throughout high school. During his university days, he got a chance to play with the likes of Lisa Loeb. After graduation, he began to promote his own demo tape. After some local gigs, he hit the music stores with "His Boy Elroy" in 1993 for Epic records. This was the perfect beginning for him though he couldn't receive any offers for the next few years. During these years he spent his time writing songs and finally he singed a solo deal with Atlantic.
In 1996, he released his debut album with Rupert Hine in the producer's chair and by the end of the year his soothing number, "Barely Breathing" had become a reasonable hit. This release couldn't give him the expected lift that Duncan had expected. Though, he resurfaced in 1998 with his next album "Humming." For his next album "Phantom Moon" he paired up with poet Steve Sater. This record was based on orchestral construction and released in early 2001.
He continued his experimental orchestrations with his signature rock style. In 2003, he performed with Sater. The year of 2006, saw the release of next album "White Limousine."
