Donovan Philips Leitch a man who despite being afflicted by polio at a tender age grew up to be a guitar player, vocalist and lyricist. Born in Glasgow he started his career as a folk artist and later made his own identity by practicing a mix of jazz, folk, pop and different types of music. He gained popularity in the beginning of 1965 with his concerts, television shows and got contracted with the Pye Records label in the same year. He reached fame very fast, appeared for his first television show, and performed live at the programme.

About Donovan
For many of his attitudes he was criticized as a copycat of Dylan but later this came to end when he and Dylan came to know each other. He made songs opposing the Vietnam War which was very rare at that time and he was popular in the market. His album Colours did not make a good market but the singer gained success in broadcasting. His next United Kingdom recording titled Fairytale came in the later part of 1965 with another single recording Turquoise but did not gain much success. Donovan appointed Ashley Kozak as manager who acquainted him with the showman Allen Klein. With the help of Klein he came tom know Mickie Most the successful producer of that time. He gave many of his best performances with Most. Sunshine Superman was the first record made by Donavon with composer John Cameron and producer Most. It was a very colorful record with a mix of jazz, folk, pop and rock. He went through a tough face from the end of 1965 to the middle of the next year.
He gained fame internationally in 1967 with There is a mountain singles. He went on trips to United States with a jazz band. Later that year the album A Gift from a Flower to a Garden came under the same Epic label and made a good market. With this album he spread an anti drugs message to the youths. He also had many tracks in the movie Poor Cow in the same year. In 1968 he went for a trip to the place of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India. He came with The Hurdy Gurdy Man the same year disclosing his affection to Mac MacLeod and it was the greatest hit of Donovan. He gave many hits with Mickie but had a debate with Most during a recording in late 1969 and split with him adversely affecting his own career. They came together for the recording of Cosmic Wheels in 1973. Nettwerk made an album Island of Circles to pay homage to Donovan in 1991. He married Linda and have two kids, he also have two kids from his girlfriend Enid Stulberger.
University of Hertfordshire in 2003 honored Donovan with Doctors of Letters degree. In the next year, he performed Sunshine Superman for a pre marriage show of Denmark’s Crown Princess with Crown Prince. The biography of Donovan’s life written by him was issued in 2005. Throughout his career he made several recordings and in 2007 declared his concept about the Invincible Donovan University to be located close to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
