About David Cook
Before American Idol, Cook was a musician struggling to gain footing in the music industry. His ventures with groups like Axium and Midwest Kings were promising, but all the praise from independent media could not keep their music careers afloat. He even released a solo album before entering the competition at his brother’s behest. David’s solo album, Analog Heart, was recognized by the website Music Equals Life and print publications like Urban Tulsa Weekly, but still he was far from selling out concert tickets anywhere but bars in Oklahoma City.
His victory proved that a rocker could win what was thought to be a competition set aside for pop divas and soul singers. A week after his victory Cook’s self-titled album was released. The album smashed the previous record for number of tracks to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 with 11. Riding the publicity from Idol, David tried to turn those promising feats into large sales numbers.
The album has yet to go gold or platinum, but Cook has played in front of Hilary Clinton, at game three of the 2008 NBA Finals, and has played the stage at Saturday Night Live. In 2009, David Cook is set to sell tickets to his Declaration tour as he travels to 36 college campuses to play to his fans.
