About The Dave Davies

This talented artist was born as David Russell Gordon Davies on February 3rd in the year 1947 in the area of Muswell Hill in London. He was a prominent singer and the lead guitarist with the popular English rock band known as The Kinks, which he incidentally founded with the remarkable Pete Quaife in the year 1963. His talented brother Ray, who also became probably the best-known member of the wonderful band, happened to join soon after. The skilled quartet was completed when the charismatic drummer Mick Avory joined them. Although he never managed to attain the incredible fame and reputation that his older brother possessed, who also happened to write and sing on most of the Kinks' popular tracks, Dave Davies did write some outstanding hits himself. Among the most notable include the "Death of a Clown" the poignant "Susannah's still alive", and the mesmerizing "Living on a Thin Line”. This apart his outstanding vocals were an integral part of Kinks' trademark sound.

But his immense rock legacy was virtually cemented in 1964, when he brilliantly created the buzzing, energetic slam-dunk power scintillating chords for his brother's brilliant number "You Really Got Me". There are various accounts regarding how he got that eccentric sound, including one quirky tale in which he reportedly said that he slashed across the speaker cones placed on his eight-watt classy Elpico amplifier with a sharp razor blade to perfectly achieve the crazily distorted sound which he intended for his guitar. This particular number actually brought him into major limelight. Many term it as one of his best and most distinctive composition that is still very popular with many music connoisseurs. Davies went on to published his autobiography which was titled Kink, in the year 1996, in which he thoroughly discussed many topics. He incidentally also wrote of the very tense professional relationship he shared with his famous brother which at times dominated the Kinks' illustrious thirty year career.

The charismatic Kinks eventually were inducted into the famed echelons of British Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame during November 2005. The musical legacy of the band lives on and its great body of work has a memorable place in rock history. Daryl Hall also has a great musical presence as a solo artist. It always a delight to hear him play live as he gives his best performance onstage and his musical genius still endears him to countless people across the world.
