But, Colm Wilkinson is one such name that has enthralled audiences world over for more than three decades. Colm Wilkinson is an Irish musical theatre actor and singer born on June 5, 1944 in Dublin. He started his career in the 1970s with one of the best Irish bands of the era, The Action. He has several hits on the Release label as C.T. Wilkinson. In 1976, he sung the part of Che Guevara in the original concept album for the musical Evita.

In 1977, Wilkinson’s extraordinary talent was exposed with the release of his self-titled EP, which reached the zenith in the Irish charts and stayed there for eight weeks. Next his composition, “There Was a Dream,” was another grand hit and topped the charts like his previous hit in Ireland. In 1978, he represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Paris with Born to Sing. He participated in many song contests, achieving great success. Wilkinson spread his talent as singer and songwriter to worldwide audiences. His life is surrounded by music. The early eighties recognized Wilkinson as one of the supreme singers of trendy songs. Along with his singing and songwriting, the celebrated star has spent several years on the stage also, mesmerizing audiences with his roles in the hit musical Les Miserables. This grand role has earned him the Dora award and the title of Val jean. This added another feather to his cap and earned him international fame.
. He then created the role of The Phantom in the workshop of The Phantom of the Opera in Sydmonton earning him the Dora Mavor Moore award. He is also known for his depiction of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar in Dublin and London. With such grand performances he has gone on to become one of the most celebrated performers of our time. His role of Barach (the Shylock character) in the Fire Angel, the musical version of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice has only helped in furthering his international standing. His performance was so impressive that Great Britain’s National Theatre invited Wilkinson to join as an actor.
Besides being an actor, songwriter and a celebrated artist, Wilkinson has appeared on over 60 titles, the most cherished one being Stage Heroes (BMG), a solo album, where he performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra recorded at the momentous Abbey Road Studios in London. Of late, he composed the title song for a forthcoming Movie of the Week on the life of the Canadian World Heavyweight Champion boxer, Tommy Burns. Presently, he is working on “Some of My Best Friends Are Songs,” a selection of some of his favorite songs of all time. He has self-penned the lyrics for the album. He is also working on a duet with his son, Aaron, on Cat Stevens', Father and Son. Wilkinson resides with his family in Canada and is in preparation for a live stage show series of the same name, Some of My Best Friends Are Songs.
