About Chris Cornell

With Soundgarden's quintessential lineup in place, the band rightfully became one of rock's most popular bands on the strength of such albums as 1991's “Badmotorfinger”, 1994's “Superunknown”, and 1996's “Down on the Upside”. He organized a tribute for late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood in the form of 1990's Temple of the Dog project, which was far more stripped down roots rock. Cornell's first officially released solo composition, the acoustic "Seasons," was the highlight of the 1992 motion picture soundtrack Singles. He also found time to pen songs for other acts, such as Flotsam & Jetsam and Alice Cooper, as well as producing the Screaming Trees' 1991 release Uncle Anesthesia.

After Soundgarden's demise in April 1997, Cornell slowly but surely began to put a solo album together with his friends from the band Eleven. Finally issued in 1999, “Euphoria Morning” focused more on Cornell's vocals and lyrics than meaty guitar riffs. Although critically hailed, the album proved commercially unsuccessful despite the album's single "Can't Change Me" being nominated for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" at the 2000 Grammy Awards. With Euphoria Morning, Chris also contributed the song "Sunshower" to the soundtrack of Great Expectations, as well as a reworked version of the track "Mission" to the film Mission: Impossible II soundtrack, retitled "Mission 2000". Shortly after its release, Cornell launched his first solo tour, mixing songs from all eras of his career. After wrapping up the aforementioned tour in early 2000, a tepid remix of the Euphoria Morning track "Mission" was included on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. He also collaborated with shock rocker Alice Cooper on Cooper's album “The Last Temptation”, and together with him wrote the song "Stolen Prayer", in which he also sang.

Also, Euphoria Morning includes Chris' tribute to friend and fellow musician Jeff Buckley entitled "Wave Goodbye". Cornell is currently the vocalist in the critically and commercially successful alternative rock quartet Audioslave, backed up by the former members and instrumentalists of Rage Against The Machine, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk. Audioslave's self-titled debut album spawned hits such as "Like a Stone" and "Cochise".Audioslave's latest album, “Out of Exile', released on May 24, 2005, debuted at #1 on the U.S. charts. The band is planning to release their third album, tentatively titled “Revelations”, in September 2006.
