Life started out on the farm in rural Checotah, Oklahoma for the country star. She had a gift, but her parents, a worker in a paper mill and an elementary school teacher, did not push her. Carrie almost had a record contract on her own when she was just 13 in 1986 with Capitol Records, but the record company’s management changed and nixed the potential deal.
Underwood instead went on with her life, graduating salutatorian from her high school and going to college at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. There she was a communications major and part of a Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Carrie pursued the stage while at college, competing beauty pageants at the college.
Underwood went on to graduate after winning American Idol and selling tickets to her tours. Carrie has become one of the biggest stars to come out of the American Idol competition and out of Northeastern State University.
