Carlos Mencia may be best known for his show, “Mind of Mencia” on Comedy Central or for his standup material that dissects sexual orientation, political correctness, and prejudice. His material and his delivery have sold tickets and comedy albums, but he got his start struggling as the 17th of 18th children in San Pedro Sula, Hondorus. Then he was known by his real name, Ned. He was raised by his aunt and uncle in East Los Angeles and entered school at California State University, Los Angeles, but left to pursue a career in comedy.

About Carlos Mencia
Mencia’s star rose quickly at local LA clubs, like The Comedy Star and The L.A. Cabaret. Word of his performance got around and Carlos was rewarded with appearances on the Arsenio Hall Show and Busando Estrellas. Menica’s career continued to grow in 1994 when he was chosen to host Loco Slam, a Latino comedy showcase on HBO. He continued his success as a host with Funny is Funny! on Galavision in 1998.
Carlos worked as a stand up comedian while hosting those show, regularly drawing large crowds and selling out tickets. Mencia formed the Three Amigos tour in 2001 with Freddy Soto and Pablo Francisco. The success launched him into two half-hour specials on HBO, which won the CableACE Award fro Best Stand-Up Comedy Special. It was Carlos’ album, Take A Joke America, which gave him enough popularity to have a Comedy Central special in 2002.
Two years later, Mencia was in talks for his won show after the success of Chappelle’s Show. In March 2005, Carlos debuted his half-hour sketch and stand-up comedy show. By the end of the second season his show had the second-highest ratings after South Park. His work has received both criticism and praise, but he maintains a solid fan base that wait for tickets to show to become available all year long.
Carlos Mencia is kicking off his At Close Range tour on May 24, 2008 in Las Vegas. The tour will run until early December, when the stand-up show will in Rio Puerco on the 13th.
