Breaking Benjamin is an immensely popular band which has an impressive fan following and music lovers are keen to see their live performances. In late 2000, guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark James Klepaski took the music world by surprise with their sudden decision to leave Lifer, an alternative metal band that was associated with Universal and was acquiring commercial recognition. Fink and Klepaski left Lifer (which was initially known as Strangers With Candy) so that they could team up with singer Ben Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel and give rise to Breaking Benjamin.

There has been intense speculation as to why Fink and Klepaski left a group that had an agreement with Universal to create a fresh alternative rock band that, at the time, did not receive support from any big label. As maintained by Breaking Benjamin's press releases, the former members of Lifer had so much confidence in Burnley's songwriting capabilities that they were eager to take a risk and displace themselves.
So in late 2000, Breaking Benjamin commenced their musical sojourn with a four-man team that comprised Burnley on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Fink on lead guitar, Klepaski on bass and Hummel on drums. Breaking Benjamin wasn't the only occasion that Fink had teamed up with Burnley; was familiar with the singer since high school. All four members of the outfit hail from Wilkes-Barre, a minor town in northeastern Pennsylvania.
When Breaking Benjamin commenced playing in the region of Wilkes-Barre, they were not merely a duplicate of Lifer but they preferred a radio-responsive post-grunge attitude that was uncompromising and vigorous yet harmonious. The band's diverse influences embrace, among others, Live, Bush, Pearl Jam, the Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana. Burnley has been cited as revealing that at age 14, he learnt guitar all on his own by following closely Nirvana's seminal 1991 release Nevermind over and over. Korn and Tool have also been described as inspiration, but unlike Korn, Breaking Benjamin doesn't have intense hip-hop inclinations. However, that does not imply that Breaking Benjamin hasn't been inspired by definitecharacteristics of Korn's sound.
The Pennsylvanians do integrate the kind of choppy, downtuned guitars that are fairly common in alterna-metal, and albeit Breaking Benjamin has a lot of similarity with post-grunge bands like Creed, Default, Cinema8 and Third Eye Blind, they have a tendency to be a little heavier. In 2001, Breaking Benjamin's Wilkes-Barre gigs drew the notice of a local radio DJ called Freddie Fabbri, who was an on-air celebrity at alterna-rock station WBSX-FM. Fabbri placed their song "Polyamorous" in regular change, and he also sponsored the recording of their self-titled opening EP which, in 2001, concluded selling about 2000 copies in and about Wilkes-Barre.
It was also in 2001 that Breaking Benjamin entered into a contract with Hollywood Records, which unified the outfit with Ulrich Wild. Wild functions as both producer and engineer on Breaking Benjamin's opening full-length album, Saturate, which Hollywood made available to the public in August 2002.
We Are Not Alone emerged a couple of years later, finalized in association with Billy Corgan. The band acquired a primo place on the Evanescence trip in confirmation of the endeavor.
