Boyzone was the brainchild of theatrical manager Louis Walsh, he advertised for boys who were interested in auditioning for a band he was launching. It was the year 1993 and in response to the advert nearly 300 hopefuls came for the audition and out of that six were selected. The band comprising of lead vocalist Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Stephen Gately, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy made their television debut just a day after establishment on Ireland's popular ‘Late Late Show’. The band then concentrated on developing a fan base and played different venues all over Ireland in 1993 and the beginning of 1994. The band soon garnered a strong fan following and then signed a recording deal with Polygram and came out with the cover version of ‘Working My Way Back To You’, with Mikey Graham and Stephen Gately on lead vocals. The single became a big hit and reached at # 3 in the Irish Charts. Their sophomore single, a cover version of the Osmonds' ‘Love Me For A Reason’ too became a big hit and reached number two.The band invaded the British charts with their hit single ‘Love me for a Reason’.

The band came out with their much awaited and anticipated maiden full-length album ‘Said and Done’ in 1995. The album peaked at #1 in both UK and Ireland charts. The band came out with their second effort ‘A Different Beat’, which too became a big sensation. The album gave popular hit singles like ‘Words’, ‘A Different Beat’, ‘Isn't it a Wonder’ and ‘Picture of You’. These singles not only ruled the airwaves in Ireland but in other parts of the world too. Ronan Keating bagged the ‘Ivor Novello Award’ in the songwriting category for the song ‘Picture of you’ in 1997. In 1998, the band released their album ‘Where We Belong’ which had mature lyrics. The album gave hit songs like ‘All that I Need’, ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ and ‘No Matter What’. After the release of the third album, the band declared that the members would be parting ways, as each wanted to concentrate on their solo projects.

After nearly a decade of silence, all the band members made an appearance on BBC1 in the UK on 16 November 2007. To the delight of many fans the band announced that they would be embarking on a tour in 2008. In other words Boyzone is back.
