Background:
Black Label Society is a heavy metal band and the brainchild of guitarist Zakk Wylde. Hard and heavy, big on riffs and even bigger on the solos, Black Label Society is the child of Black Sabbath. Having graced the world’s stages for the last 18 years, both as Ozzy Osbourne’s right hand man as well as fronting BLS, Zakk Wylde has established himself as one of the few remaining guitar heroes. “European Invasion” captures Black Label Society live on their sold out European tour - one of the most anticipated tours of the year.

In 1992 Zakk formed his own solo band Pride & Glory, blending potent bluesy southern rock with heavy metal. In 1994 Ozzy decided to come out of retirement, and the numerous recording sessions for Ozzmosis took place. Around this time, Zakk was also offered the open guitar slot in Guns N' Roses and had a hard time deciding whether to tour with Ozzy or join Guns N' Roses. Neither project panned out.
This gave Wylde the opportunity to record his own acoustic solo album, "Book of Shadows." When it failed to score any mainstream success, the six-stringer took an extended break before resurfacing with a new album and band called Black Label Society in 1999, featuring Wylde on vocals, guitar, and bass and drummer Phil Ondich. Nick Catanese has been Zakk's rhythm guitarist since the Book Of Shadows tour. Craig Nunenmacher has been drumming since 1919 Eternal (2001) following Phil's departure.
A number of different musicians would sift through the band's ranks during the convoluted tour which followed, but Ondich was back on the drum stool by the time Black Label Society recorded 2000's “Stronger Than Death” album for new label Spitfire Records. The subsequent tour included a slot on the second stage of Ozzfest's tour, and yielded the live Alcohol Fulede Brewtality album in 2001.
The band returned to Ozzfest the following year in support of the “1919 Eternal LP. Blessed Hellride appeared in 2003”, followed by Hangover Music Vol. VI a year later. “Mafia', Black Label Society's seventh album, was released in spring 2005. The following October, Spitfire Records issued the Wylde work compilation Kings of Damnation. The first Black Label Society album took the ferocious hard rock of such BLS albums as 2003's Blessed Hellride and 2005's Mafia to a whole new level of “brewtality.”
In the two decades since Ozzy plucked him from obscurity and hired him to be his new guitarist, Zakk has established himself as a guitar icon on the same level as Rhoads, Page and Eddie Van Halen. He's even practically won the guitar magazine award and is cited as a major influence by the latest wave of metal guitarists. The summer of 2006 figures to be a busy one for Zakk.
Not only will Black Label Society be headlining the Second Stage at Ozzfest, but he'll be playing guitar for Ozzy's selected Ozzfest appearances. Black Label's Ozzfest appearances are certain to draw a large contingent. Black Label Society are headlining the second stage at this years Ozzfest (US). Tickets for dates in Australia, New Zealand and the UK have gone on sale - an early Spring 2007 world tour looks likely.
