"Afro-Cuban all stars" is a popular band. This band has known for its tremendous contribution in the promotion of the Afro-Cuban music. This group has been responsible to bring Afro-Cuban music to the world stage. Though, there are other bands those who are contributing in the promotion of these genres but they are leading from the front. Juan De Marcos Gonzales is the main force behind the band. Juan started his musical journey as a drummer of Sierra Maestra. The band was formed in the late 90's.

The group issued their maiden album "A Toda Cuba Le Gusted," in 1997. This release went on to earn a place in the legendary Buena Vista Social Club. Their music is unique but there are other things that make them different from others. The members of the band incredibly belong to various generations and their age comes from 13 to 81 years. There music covers the colored spectrum of Latin dance music, including, cha-cha, salsa, mambo, timba, son montuno, guajira, bolero, danzon and abakua. Once when someone asked about their music, Gonzalez replies, "We have to use all the heritage of Cuban music to create a sound of the future."
The band came into being when Gonzalez's earlier band Sierra Maestra disbanded. Till then he had earned a dedicated fan band. He has been playing with his earlier band since 1970's. The Afro-Cuban All Stars band comprised of trumpet player Yanko Pisaco and pianist Ruben Gonzalez. The vocals are contributed by Raúl Planas, Pio Leyva, and Manuel "Puntillita" Licea. In 2000, the group added Los Van-Van vocalist Pedro Calvo in the final line up. Later on they added Caridad Hierrezuelo.
