About AC/DC
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, brothers Malcolm, Angus, and George Young moved young to Sydney in 1963. The group decided to start a band shortly after getting inspired to pursue a career of music. The bands name originated from a sewing machine with the initials AC/DC for alternating current/direct current. The group believed the name symbolized raw energy and power driven performances, including the groups love for music. Acca Dacca has become the name for the group in Australia.
Bassist Larry Van Kredit, vocalist Dave Evans, and Colin Burgess, ex-Masters Apprentices drummer, formed with the brothers to create the band AC/DC. In Sydney, the band began to play in the club Chequers, gaining a following. The were noticed and signed to the EMI-distributed Albert Productions label in both New Zealand and Australia. The band started to stabilize, featuring a new drummer Phil Rudd. The groups perennial rock anthem became It’s a long Way to the Top (If you Wanna Rock n Roll). It was included on the album T.N.T as well as the classic song High Voltage.
On Countdown, a pop music television show, AC/DC became one of the most sensational artists in Australia, quickly being listened to across the world. But the death of Scott lead to the band shutting down for a few years.
Buzz Shearmen was to replace Scott after debates of quitting, but Brian Johnson filled the roll better and replaced Scott in his death. The album Back in Black, the biggest selling album and hard rock landmark, was released shortly after by Compass Point Studios.
On 18 August 2008, Columbia Records announced the new album 18 October Australian release, and 20 October worldwide release, of the studio album Black Ice. The 15 track album became the first release in eight years, and sparked a new concert tour.
