The group started in 2001 in Orange County, CA, took off with singer Joe Brown, bassist Phil Pirrone, drummer Brett Dinovo, and guitarists Dan Arnold and Nathan Lindeman. Their maiden show was just two weeks after being together, and it was able to initiate a buzz about the guys. The bands cashed on it, and build their fan base throughout the local circuit. Within no time, the guys recorded and self-released the Withered EP. A year after formation, the band was signed by Ferret Records. A year later, in 2003 they came out with their album And Don't Forget to Breathe that was produced by Steve Evetts. The album was well received but it seemed that the band had more potential, there was much to discover. After the release of their album the band hit the road, and they remained there for almost a year. The yearlong tour created a rift, and the relationship amongst the band members became strained. The first causality was Dinovo, he left the band to resume school. The band signed a recording deal with Columbia, and began work on their next album. Their album Faso Latido produced by Lou Giordano was released in 2005. Their friend Sammy Siegle was on drums. After the completion of the album, the band began to look out for a new drummer. Dinovo went to his old band mates at a show and eventually rejoined the band in mid-2005. In 2005 itself the band found a place on the popular Taste of Chaos tour alongside the Used and Killswitch Engage. 2006 started off in a bad note for the band, Pirrone, Dinovo, and Lindeman left the band over musical differences. Their recording company Columbia also dropped the band. The band did not have to wait long before they signed another recording deal with California indie Fearless Records. Brown and Arnold were once more part of a full band with the inclusion of guitarist John Death, bassist Dane Poppin, and drummer Jarrod Alexander to A Static Lullaby's lineup by March. The band again collaborated with producer Evetts, and released a self titled album. After the release of the album, the band hit the road with I Am Ghost.
