This sensational band was formed in Nederland, CO, but originally the band's foundation lies to Urbana, IL. Some ambitious college students met and found that they all share same interests. Dave Johnson, a good banjo player and one of the students encourage them to realize their dreams. Eventually Dave met mandolin player Jeff Austin. After some time, Austin made up his mind and moved to west to settle in Nederland. That's where Johnston joined them, and then the two discovered guitarist Adam Aijala and bass player Ben Kauffman at a local club called the Verve. That's how they formed the band in December 1998 and performed at the Fox Theater in Boulder. By the time, Yonder Mountain String Band developed an ardent following among jam band fans and bluegrass fans as they played thoroughly and extend their way up the bar and happening club circuit in the West. Their fans love to watch their live performances and happily buy tickets to be there.
