Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the most renowned guitarists of all time. He has been the idol of over a generation of guitarists and is regularly featured in the lists of all time guitar legends. Malmsteen was born in Stockholm, Sweden in the year 1963 and was the youngest sibling of his family. Malmsteen, in his early childhood days had no interest in music but on September 18, 1970 he saw a featured television program on the death of legendary guitarist 'Jimi Hendrix'. The seven-year-old Malmsteen watched in awe as to how Hendrix mesmerized his audience and cast a spell on them. That very day, Malmsteen decided to emulate his idol and ever since then, there has been no stopping him. As a teenager, Malmsteen was also heavily influenced by the music of the 19th century violin virtuoso 'Niccolò Paganini', which had a substantial impact on Malmsteen's musical style and was partly the reason of his technical fluency.

Malmsteen shifted to the U.S in the year 1982. Subsequently, he joined the outfit 'Steeler' and released three albums with them. The band had a massive fan following in Los Angeles and Malmsteen's technical expertise was a huge reason behind that fact. Malmsteen eventually released his first solo album titled 'Rising Force' in the year 1984. The album featured 'Barrie Barlow', of 'Jethro Tull' fame, on the drums. The album got Malmsteen under instant spotlight and won rave reviews from critics. The album won the 'Guitar Player Magazine's award for the 'Best Rock Album' and also got a Grammy nomination for 'Best Rock Instrumental'. The band came out with its second and third albums, 'Marching Out' and 'Trilogy', in the year 1985 and 1986 respectively. A major car accident put Malmsteen's rising career on a short hiatus and his next album titled ‘Odyssey’ came after two years, in the year 1988. This album was his biggest hit till date and it re-confirmed that Malmsteen had lost none of his shine.
Malmsteen, along with contemporaries such as Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore, was one of the pioneers of the 'Neo-classical" style of metal, that became immensely popular during the 1980's. Malmsteen received a major honor in the year 1988, when Fender launched a Malmsteen's signature Fender Stratocaster guitar. Malmsteen released many hit albums over the 1990's, such as 'Eclipse' in the year 1990, 'The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection' in the year 1991, 'Fire and Ice' in the year 1992 and 'The Seventh Sign' in the year 1994. With these albums, Malmsteen's popularity grew even outside the country and he started having a massive fan following all over Europe and Asia.
By the year 2000, Malmsteens band had seen a number of line-up changes. His band came out with the next album, titled 'Attack!!’ in the year 2002, which was again admired and appreciated by his millions of fans. Malmsteen joined Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, as a part of the immortal supergroup G3, in the year 2003. Malmsteen released his next album, titled 'Unleash the Fury, in the year 2005. Over the years, Yngwie Malmsteen has established a reputation that few can even think about matching. His band will be coming out with its next album, to be titled ' Perpetual Flame' later this year in October. His guitar playing style cannot be described in words and his prowess simply can’t be equaled. Malmsteen has been giving his millions of obsessed fans some great music for over three decades now and there is no iota of doubt that he will continue to do so.
