Wynton Marsalis is a multitalented artist, he is known as Jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, advocate for the arts, composer, and educator. Marsalis has also helped to propel jazz to the forefront of vast American culture. His prominent position and honest contribution in American culture was solidified and well appreciated by people of America in April 1997, when Marsalis became the first jazz artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in music for his exceptional work in "Blood on the Fields". He has also served as the world-renowned and accepted arts organization’s artistic director. Marsalis has also worked as a music director of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Marsalis exhibited seriousness about study, at an early age. He had a desire to contribute in American culture. At age 8, he performed traditional New Orleans music. At age 12, Marsalis began studying trumpet seriously. His childhood was a very conducive one to flourish his musical genius. At 14, Marsalis performed at the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Marsalis entered The Julliard School, NY to study classical trumpet in 1979. Here, he had the opportunity to interact with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. This was the right time to discover his true love, jazz music. In 1980, he joined the well known and acclaimed bandleader Blakey's band. Blakey's band had already contributed a lot to inspire many generations of emerging jazz artists to hone their real craft. In the years to follow, Marsalis received many offers to perform with Dizzy Gillespie, John Lewis, Sweets Edison, Sonny Rollins, Sarah Vaughan and numerous other jazz legends. About The Wynton Marsalis

Marsalis made his recording debut as a leader in 1982. This great artist has produced a catalogue of more than 40 jazz and other sizzling classical recordings for many well known names like Sony Classical and Columbia Jazz. In 1983, Marsalis won nine Grammy Awards in both categories as classical and jazz Grammy Awards. He repeated this incredible feat in 1984. Marsalis released eight new recordings in1999; including seven CDs boxed set of live performances. In 1999, he presented his most passionate and ambitious work to date "All Rise," this was an epic composition for big band, symphony orchestra, and gospel choir. Marsalis's great work includes, New York City Ballet in 1999, Jazz Six Syncopated movements in 1993, Blue Note Records in 2003. Marsalis released his debut CD, "The Magic Hour" in 2004, followed up by his debut with cool Unforgivable Blackness. In 2005, he released Live at The House of Tribes. He has contributed a lot as an artistic director and music director of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. This music genius is performing live.
