Warrant will forever hold a place in music history with “Cherry Pie”. The song peaked the charts at the height of their fame, when their album was busy going platinum and their concert tickets were sold out for every tour. That window of unimaginable success for the lead singer Jani Lane guitarists Erik Turner and Joey Allen, drummer Steven Sweet, and bassist Jerry Dixon, was small as the group quickly faded away into the ‘90s when grunge rock took over and glam rock fell by the wayside. Warrant has survived though, through many lineups and for many years, the group has been able to sustain itself and still reach its loyal audience with tickets and albums.

The group started in 1984 in Los Angeles when Erik Turner wanted to start a rock band. The original lineup, other than Turner and bassist Dixon, was revamped after two years and no record deal. Warrant found its way with the addition of Jani Lane. Lane’s voice rocked the melodic anthem and his songwriting gave way to the sentimental ballads that defined much of their music.
By 1988 they had a record deal with Columbia Records. Warrant had become a staple at night clubs around the city, but their debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich launched them into a whole new stratosphere. The album peaked at number 10 on the charts and went on to be certified platinum twice. “Down Boys”, Heaven”, and “Sometimes She Cries” landed in the top 20 on mainstream rock charts and Warrant found itself on tour with groups like Queensryche, Cinderella, Poison, Motley Crue, and Kingdom Come. Fans with tickets were rewarded with a glam rock bonanza.
After finding similar success with Cherry Pie in 1990, Warrant headlined their first tour. The “Blood, Sweat, and Beers” tour was scheduled with FireHouse and Trixter as support. Tickets were sold quickly and the arena rock concerts had thousands of howling fans ready to worship the group. Warrant, though, found their success just as the tastes were changing. Grunge rock took over and the glam band started to fold under the pressure. Dog Eat Dog reached limited commercial success and the group struggled to sell tickets as the audience moved to the Seattle sound.
Warrant was dropped by Columbia Records and went through a number of lineup changes that left little continuity, leaving the group grasping for air just to stay afloat. Stay they did, though, and now the group has reunited with Lane, Turner, Allen, Sweet, and Dixon back on stage. Fans are waiting with tickets in hand for the concert scheduled near them to see the band that rocked their world so many years ago back on tour.
