About Vicki Lawrence

Lawrence was credited as Vicki Lawrence Schultz; Schultz being the surname of her second husband and Hollywood make-up artist, Al Schultz, to whom she has been married since November 16, 1974. The couple has two children, Courtney and Garrett. Her The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978 was a household name that gave her identity as a comedienne and actress. She hosted this show for eleven seasons. As an integral part of the show, she remained a valuable part of the comedic team there as an artist playing memorable characters like Thelma Harper in recurring ‘Family’ sketches.

She and her husband Al shifted to Maui in Hawaii with their children after the end of The Carol Burnett Show in 1978. They relocated to Los Angles after few years where they settled permanently. Her portrayal of the ‘Mama’ character became immortal and highly popular. NBC network created a sitcom, Mama's Family based upon the characters from this skit. NBC ran the series from 1983 to 1985. In its first-run syndication, this sitcom got renewed from 1986 to 1990. It is believed that its current version is an animated version that is livelier than the Mama's Family. It became popular in this version.

Her remarkable performances from other sitcoms like Home Improvement, Roseanne, Hannah Montana and Yes Dear too were noticeable. She has appeared with Burnett, Harvey Korman and Tim Conway in the Burnett Show that was broadcasted in 2001 and 2004. Her stint in singing is at par with the masterpieces like, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia. It was her #1 hit. Her previous husband Bobby Russell wrote this song. It was released on the Bell Records in November 1972. Her works, He Did With Me as a follow-up to, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia was a moderate hit. It reached at #75 in the United States. Interestingly it was a biggest hit in Australia where it reached at #1. She had one last minor US chart entry on the Private Stock label with the anti-feminist curiosity, The Other Woman at #81 in 1975.

Lawrence hosted the daytime NBC version of the game show Win, Lose or Draw as an emcee. Her performances spoke in her favour. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Best Talk Show for the eponymous Vicki! in 1993 but it got canceled after two seasons.
