Van Winkle career has been far from enviable. His first steps in the music industry were taken when he released a relatively unknown album called “Hooked,” it was released in 1989 on an independent label and sold just 48,000 copies, making it a sort of collector's item among fans.
His second album “To the Extreme,” was released in 1990 and contained the same songs as in his previous album with the exception of his phenomenal hit, "Ice Ice Baby". “To the Extreme” went on to sell over 11 million copies, making him one of the most commercially successful rapper of that time.
With the success of his previous offering, Van Winkle released his next album, it was a live version of To The Extreme and was aptly titled “Extremely Live.” Although Extremely Live sold a decent number of records, Vanilla Ice's fame had disintegrated substantially when it was eventually released in 1991 and sadly that was the end of commercial success for this white rapper.
Vanilla Ice used his short-lived celebrity status to market himself in other mediums of entertainment , adly with little success. He made his film debut in 1991 as part of the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. In the movie he performed "The Ninja Rap". He reappeared in another movie, released in 1991 and titled “Cool as Ice.” The movie was a critical and commercial washout.
But Vanilla Ice was undeterred by failure, he returned to his singing with 1998's “Hard to Swallow,” he also made a blatant attempt to reinvent himself as a hardcore, gangster-styled rapper; unfortunately the public gave him a negative response. His 2001 album “Bipolar,” came and went as Ice tired very hard reinvent himself as both rapper and rocker. He released his new album "Platinum Underground" on August 16, 2005.
His crazy lifestyle and behavior landed him in trouble with the law. He was arrested in January 2001 for assaulting his wife. He had apparently pulled her hair and covered her mouth during an argument. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend family therapy sessions.
Vanilla Ice has just released this latest album and he seems to be catching the imagination of the public once again. Come and watch this crazy and notorious artist on stage, live in concert. Contact your on line ticket vendor and get the tickets now!
