Unfortunately, Ronnie died in a plane crash in 1977; the band lost other three members because of this devastating accident. This was very shocking news for the brothers yet they continued their passion for music and also kept Ronnie's musical legacy alive. Then, Donnie Van Zant leaded others founded the band “38 Special.”

Their rigorous effort made them one of the hugely acclaimed Southern rock bands in the 1980s. Johnny released his next album "Van Zant" in 1985. Though, Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited in 1987, and the enthusiastic brothers parted ways as Johnny heartily joined the band as lead vocalist.

The "Van Zant," popular name was restored in 1998 and then Donnie and Johnny came together to create an album. The album was suitably titled “Brother to Brother.” The album did very well and convinced the brothers to carry on more projects together. The band issued another soothing album in 2001 titled “Van Zant II.” In 2004, the duo signed up with Sony Nashville. In 2005, Vant Zant issued their next album “Get Right With the Man.” The Van Zant are great performers, and they are like the royalty of great American music.
