Underworld started singing at Demonstrator, a college dive bar. The group requested that the local radio station to play their track. Underworld’s members were friends in middle school. The bassist was heavily influenced by his family's love for music.

Underworld realized that they could really have a career in music as soon as Lisa Slatter started a fan club for the group in 1981. After starting out with a handful of members in Jacksonville, the club took off exponentially, growing to over two thousand in just a few months.
