Ugly were relieved when their single climbed the charts. They had heard too many stories of bands with record deals going nowhere. Ugly met with a local DJ from X103.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group.
Ugly realized they had finally made it as soon as the band’s first fan club was started in 1990 by Melissa Molitor. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Orlando, but the creation the band’s website by Jennifer Mitchell, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.
Ugly's new album has taken the band in a incredibly different direction, with a softer edge. The band just completed their latest album, but they are planning the next release already. Members of Ugly hope this next tour brings in more fans than ever.
