Trace Adkins

Most artists would five up their dream if they had not made it by 30, but most artists are not Trace Adkins. Trace Adkins was discovered at the age of 34 while playing at a honky-tonk bar in Nashville. The six-foot-six-inch singer and his deep, baritone voice have stormed the charts since that night, making him the quintessential country singer. >> More alt

About The Trace Adkins

The accident reignited his dream of becoming a musician and he began to play honky-tonk bars around Nashville. Trace’s life was still far from a dream and his drinking resulted in a number of incidents. Adkins was involved in a number of bar room brawls, he was shot in the heart and the lung by his second wife, and he has been stabbed and beaten severely.

The dangers of the work caught up to Adkins and he lost his left pinky finger in an accident. Still interested in music, Trace had the doctors attach the finger at an angle so he could still play guitar despite the lack of mobility by the finger.

The accident reignited his dream of becoming a musician and he began to play honky-tock bars around Nashville. Trace’s life was still far from a dream and his drinking resulted in a number of incidents. Adkins was involved in a number of bar room brawls, he was shot in the heart and the lung by his second wife, and he has been stabbed and beaten severely.

In the end Trace was discovered playing in a bar by an executive from Capitol Records in 1996. From there he released the single “There’s a Girl in Texas” that reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. A year later, Adkins released his first album, Dreamin’ Out Loud. The platinum selling album reached number six on the charts and had three hit singles. “Everything Light in the House reached number three on the country charts, “I Left Somehting Turned on at Home” reached number two, and “(This Ain’t) No Thinkin’ Thing” was his first number one song.

The follow up album, Big Time, reached number seven on the charts, but only produced one top ten single, “The Rest of Mine”, and was only certified gold by the RAII. Trace changed management after his second album in 1997, and delayed the release of his third album, More…. The album title track breached the top ten as did the album, but it did not sell, failing to even reach gold certification.

As the times became harder his drinking became harder and Adkins was charged with a DUI on July 5, 2001. Soon after Trace was injured in a tractor accident and canceled his tour to recover and enter an alcohol rehabilitation program in Nashville. The 28-day program followed the release of his fourth album, Chrome. Tracy’s change in lifestyle produced great results, and the album peaked at number four on the country charts and two singles reached the top ten, “I’m Tryin’” and “Chrome”.

The album went gold and Trace was back on the country scene after threatening to leave the ranks of the top tier singers. Adkins postponed the release of his fifth studio album in 2003, releasing a greatest hits compilation and the single “Then They Do”, but eventually released Comin’ on Strong later that year. The album peaked at number three on the charts and returned him to platinum status.

Adkins next album, Songs About Me” proved to be his best selling, being certified double platinum, and peaked at number on the country charts. The record also had two number two hits, “Songs About Me” and “Hony Tonk Badonkadonk”. Trace followed with his gold certified Dangerous Man album a year later in 2006 and produced his first number one single, “Ladies Love Country Boys”, since 1997.

In 2007 Trace Adkins released his second greatest hits album with the number one single “You’re Gonna Miss This”. Since his last release he has expanded his media presence with appearances on Celebrity Apprentice, The Young and the Restless, and voice-overs in commercials.
