Artist: Tool
Genre: Hard Rock
Latest Album: Maximum Tool
Background:
Tool's biggest breakthrough was to usher dark, vaguely underground hard metal to the art rock. Tool follows dark, death metal, trash and bleak visions of grind core. The band is influenced by post-punk era; they form their music with detailed instrumental interludes. Their music is blended with the aesthetic prog rock. Though, the band earned a tremendous following by conveying the strangled and oppressive angst. That is why the band was able to give a new definition of alternative rock during the famous post-Nirvana era. The band released their full length debut album "Undertow" in 1993 by landing a firm slot on the third Lollapalooza tour. The album earned many rave reviews and rocketed into platinum status. Their next album "Aenima" was released in 1996, though the band lost its firm grip on the mainstream rock scene of America.

With their gloomy, dark, angry and defiant lyric with numbing guitar drilling, the band appealed both to alternative and metal heads fans. When the band landed an opening spot on the hyped Lollapalooza, their fans grew by leaps and bounds. After a co-headlining slot with hugely popular Korn on Lollapalooza '97 wrapped up, the band remained on the road; sincerely supporting "Aenima." Their next album "Mer de Noms" which was released in 2000 proved a surprise hit. In 2001, the band released their next full-length release "Lateralus," which eventually debuted at the number one slot on the popular "Billboard album chart" and ultimately became their biggest hit.
When the band was going through a slump then their electrifying live shows proved as their savior and encouraged them to carry on with their unique music. The band issued their debut video "Sober" in 1993. This video was acclaimed as a ground-breaking stop action piece; and went on to win the "Best Clip" and "Best New Artist" award in Billboard Video Awards. The band also earned a nomination at the MTV Video awards for their hugely popular next video "Prison Sex."
