On 17th November, in the year 1967 the talented blues guitarist, singer and musician Tab Benoit was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. He blends the styles of Swamp blues, Chicago blues and Soul blues and creates an all-new music. This talented artist writes his own songs and plays the fender guitar.

Benoit has been playing the guitar since he was a teenager. He spent his time at the Blues Box, which was a cultural center and music club in Baton Rouge owned by Tabby Thomas. He learned the blues music from Thomas, Henry Gray, Raful Neal and other musicians who came to the club. In the year 1985, Benoit graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School, which was situated in Houma, Louisiana.
Later he formed a trio in the year 1987 and started playing at clubs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. In the year 1991, he started touring the United States and does the same till date.
In the year 1992, Benoit released his album “Nice and Warm,” under the Texas based Justice Records. It garnered good reviews and was compared to the works of blues guitar heavyweights like Albert King, Jimi Hendrix and Albert Collins. On Vanguard Records, “These Blues Are All Mine,” was released in the year 1999. This album marked the return of the rootsy sound that he had stopped giving for many years.
He came out with “Homesick for the Road,” the same year. It was recorded on the Telarc label and was a collaborative work done with fellow guitarists Debbie Davies and Kenny Neal. The album was a popular one and gave a thrust to their careers. Benoit's relation with the Telarc label carried on for long till the release of “Wetlands,” in the year 2002. It was one of his best works.
The album is a mixture of soulful melodies. It features “When a Cajun Man Gets the Blues,” “Li'l Bob & the Lollipops,” “Fast and Free,” Professor Longhair's “Her Mind Is Gone,” “I Got Loaded” and “Otis Redding's “These Arms of Mine.” Redding's influence can be seen on Benoit's work. Later in the same year “Whiskey Store,” was released which was a collaborative product of Jimmy Thackery, fellow guitarist and Telarc label mate, Double Trouble and Charlie Musselwhite.
The year 2003 saw the release of “Sea Saint Sessions,” which was recorded on Big Easy Recording Studio in New Orleans. The album featured various guest appearances by Cyril Neville, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, George Porter and Brian Stoltz. He formed an organization “Voice of the Wetlands,” to promote awareness of coastal wetlands, in the year 2003. The following year saw the release of “Whiskey Store Live,” a high - energy guitar fest. “Fever for the Bayou,” his next release featured guest appearances by Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and Cyril Neville. In the year 2006, “Brother To The Blues” came out to enthrall the listeners. The album was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Traditional Blues Album.
A fan of the New Orleans Saints, Benoit features in the IMAX film, “Hurricane on the Bayou.”
