Sister Hazel is the group from Gainesville, Florida that has become an influential group through their message and their music, which mixes alternative rock, folk, and southern rock. What started out as a college party band became something more inn 1994 after playing a local residents festival. The festival, Humblefest, was the first real step toward moving the band from a group that played for beer to a band that sold tickets.

The group has stayed together after all these years and includes lead singer and acoustic guitarist Ken Block, bassist Jeff Beres, rhythm guitarist Andrew Copeland, lead and slide guitarist Ryan Newell, and drummer Mark Trojanowski. The band is named after Sister Hazel Williams, an African American woman that ran a rescue mission in Gainesville in the ‘70s and early ‘80s.
Sister Hazel’s music career has been split between selling ticket sand albums to promote their albums and selling tickets and raising money for charity events to stay true to their name. The group has been known for its inventive tours and their troubadour-esque concert schedule.
The band currently plays on their own label, Croakin’ Poets, but has played for Universal Records and Sixthman. On each label Sister Hazel has released their original self-titled album, but their most successful album to date has been …Somewhere More Familiar, their only album to reach platinum.
Sister Hazel is about to hit the road again. This time it is to support their 10th release, Before The Amplifiers, Live Acoustic. Sister Hazel tickets will be available for shows starting on July 3 at St. Petersburg, Florida and ending at the Epcot Center in Orlando on October 14.
