Santogold started performing at the college dive bar Accountant. The guitarist was influenced by his grandfather's love of music. The lead singer was heavily influenced by his father's love for music. Santogold began playing together while they were in middle school. The band had their friends harass the local radio station to play their first release.

All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their album. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller clubs in which they began.
The group is in the middle of the promotional tour for their newest album. After this last hectic year the members of Santogold will spend some time apart to pursue individual projects.
