Relient K was formed in early 1997 in Canton, Ohio. It was quite interestingly named after the lead guitarist Matt Hoopes's stunning Plymouth Reliant K car. The group consists of highly talented musicians with Matt Thiessen on lead vocals and piano, Matt Hoopes on guitar, the remarkably talented David Douglas on drums.
It also has John Warne handling bass guitar, and Jonathan Schneck to hit some more power cords on the guitar. Over the band has seen some upward evolution which included increased efforts in songwriting and high-octane stage shows which have made hugely popular. The shows have been a sold out from coast to coast. Some of their tracks really reflect the level of musical maturity they have gained lately.
The track “Who I Am hates ...” illustrates this refinement as it launches with a very reflective and mesmerizing piano arrangement. It slowly builds up with an inherent intensity to grasp and address life’s moments in times when everything apparently seems to be failing.
This track reminds that God provides second chances and is very poignant in its approach to life. Another track that reflects their growth in songwriting is “This Week, The Trend”. It effortlessly speaks of breaking through the grinding daily routine and living through each day to its very adventurous fullest.
One of the tracks that is hugely favorite with the crowds is the delightfully spunky “Maintain Consciousness”. It’s a bright and colorful commentary detailing upon the society’s inexplicable need to be constantly pursued and stimulated by technology.
Many refer to Relient K as one of the best rock groups performing out there right now. The band always gives a very engrossing performance every time it goes on stage and also makes audiences think with their numbers. The number of wildly ecstatic fans that can be seen at their concert is a testament to their poignantly addictive music. So get your tickets and also for your loved ones and swing to some terrific musical beats and soak up the experience
