Background: Ray Davies is better known as the lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist of the Kinks. The band was one of the most famos and successful British bands in the 1960s. It was a promise to sell out concerts and the tickets were always out of stock. At times, Ray writes with occasional contribution from his brother Dave, but mostly he is the figure behind the success of the Kinks. Dave was also a member of the group and played lead guitar. Ray many times decided to dissolve the Kinks and pursue a solo career. But that was not to happen and Kink eventually became on of the long lived Invasion rock groups.

The farthest that Ray would go in the direction of a solo career was when he claimed the credit for the soundtrack to his film ''Return to Waterloo,'' which was released in 1985. Ray both wrote and directed the movie. The music was as much Kink as on the original band records. But Ray did not have to take the harsh decision. As the band gradually became inactive during the 90s. That gave Ray the opportunity to pursue other projects. One of them was the 1995 memoir, X-Ray, that was semi-fictional.
He went on to conduct a few concerts to support the book. Subtitled as ''Storyteller," in these concerts he read from the book, told stories, played classic Kinks songs and also showcased new songs. The concert became a major hit and was adpted by the music cable network VH1 as a recurring series.
Ray later released an album by the same name. It was a recording of one of his solo acoustic concerts. It was released in 1998. The record became a major hit, the first as a solo album after ''Return to Waterloo.'' Then in 2005 came the the benefit EP ''Thanksgiving Day.'' The money earned from the EP went to New Orleans music education programs.
Ray Davies also holds concerts which have their own fan following. So when you decide to join the group get the tickets from an online ticket vendor.
