Nitty Gritty Dirt Band were still not sure if they would make it after getting a record. They had heard too many stories and knew that they were in no position to expect anything. The band plays almost every night of the week as the they tour the nation. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band met with a local DJ from X91.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The bandplayed anywhere that would have them in the beginning.
accepted that they had made it after Cynthia Oswalt started a fan club for the group in 2000. Starting out in Dallas with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand nation wide in under a year.
